"My path led to food photography because photographing food offered the kind of creative freedom that my personal work afforded me.  Food itself has become more of it’s own art form as well, so photographing it felt less like commercial work and more like personal work and  personal expression.  In all my work (painting, landscape and food photography) I strive to capture the emotional aspect of my subjects, even if they are inanimate.  For example: the light defining the landscape that we have all experienced at one time, the texture of fields of color of paint on a canvas or a beautifully crafted, appetizing looking meal.  Food is inherently emotional.  It represents culture, family, community and nourishment.  Growing up with a poet mother, I learned to appreciate the transformation of the ordinary into something that resonates.  I learned to see how beauty can heal us.  I find that food captures all of that.” - Leigh Beisch
