“Regarding an artist’s statement, I’ll start by saying I generally don’t see myself as an artist. While my work is clearly tied to my personal aesthetic, biases, and point of view, I mostly make images for other people’s stories. To that end, I prefer a reactionary approach. I’ve never been one to see an image in my mind, and then set out to create it. I’m actually happier with a loose plan, and on a good day, being surprised by what I find. I don’t know if I fully believe in luck, but I think we’ve been in the same room once or twice.
I love the imperfect and accidental nature of food, and I tend to look for those qualities in everything. Blemishes, wrinkles, crumbs - those are the bits that grab my attention. I probably won’t notice your perfect complexion, but I definitely want to highlight (and celebrate) your scars. Photography lives in this little space between the literal and the expressive. I like the tension.” - Ed Anderson
